On March 7, 2021, Richard Wielgoszinski passed away, at the age 78. He was a resident of Broomall since 1993, and a former resident of Philadelphia. He was a 1960 graduate of Northeast Catholic High school, where he played on the high school basketball team. Richard was a member of the US Army Reserves, serving during the Vietnam War, from 1963 to 1969. He worked for the Morten Goren PE company for 15 years, until they were bought out by Wick Fisher White of Philadelphia. He remained with them for another 35 years as a Mechanical Designer, retiring in 2019.
A longtime member of the St. Pius X Church in Broomall, Richard served as an Usher for many years. He belonged to the Knights of Columbus Mater Dei Council #4129 of Newtown Square. He also served as a Boy Scout and Cub Scout Leader from 1976 to 1993 for troop # 552 of Phila. He was active with the Sound and Lighting department of the Narberth Community Theatre. He was also a lifelong fan of the Phillies and Eagles.
He is survived by his wife, the former Joan Violetti, whom he married in 1965. Also surviving are children Robert of Philadelphia, Chris (Jennifer), of Stafford, VA, his grandchildren, Tyler, Jasmine, Mia, and Grace, and a brother, Robert, of Connecticut. Richard was predeceased by his brother Francis Gary Wielgoszinski. Relatives and friends are invited to Mass on Monday, March 15, 2021 at 10:00 AM in St. Pius X Church, 220 Lawrence Rd., Broomall, PA 19008, where friends may call after 9:00 AM.
